At least five communities of Ladin Buta near Khaddamari village of Jere local government area of Borno state have been destroyed by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect.

Jere Council headquarters is located in North-East, just about 7 km drive from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

According to reliable sources and fleeing residents, the militants were armed with AK47 rifles and petrol bombs including Improvised Explosive Devices.

Vanguard reports that the insurgents invaded the communities around 7pm on Tuesday, May 24, and set ablaze many houses after killing 13 residents and injurying scores of others.

A policeman attached to Jere Division, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the deadly attack and destruction of houses in the area.
He said he was at his duty post when they received a distress call that suspected members of the Boko Haram sect had invaded the surrounding communities of Khaddamari.

According to the policeman, they were helpless as there were no reinforcement from the military to repel the sudden night attack. He added that the Divisional Police Officer ordered his men to visit the areas only on Wednesday morning.

The police source revealed that after visiting the scene of the incident, the police recovered 13 dead bodies of residents with scores injured with bullet wounds and burns. He added that almost all the houses and building in the affected communities were destroyed.

Meanwhile, there is tension in Kano state following the confession of a woman that the insurgents asked her to engage in a suicide bombing of a popular market in the state.

Governor Umar Ganduje warned residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons to the police following to the confessions of the woman.
